Birthday Wrap-Up

So...I turned 30!!! My birthday was this past Saturday and I made a week-long celebration out of it. First, I bought my traditional pumpkin pie and ate a piece every day leading up to my birthday. Then, my best friend Emily flew to Denver on Tuesday so she could be here for the festivities. We spent the first few days exploring Denver, Boulder, and Castle Rock. Then on Saturday we went to Nordstrom and got our makeup professionally done.

When we got back to my apartment my mom had put a Happy Birthday sign on my door and decorated my living room with a banner and balloons. She's so thoughtful!!

On Saturday afternoon we drove up to Black Hawk to visit the casinos and stay overnight at the Ameristar Resort & Casino.

Here's a picture of Emily's big win on a Monopoly machine...I think it actually went all the way up to $20+ dollars!

Overall it was a great week and I'm really sad it's over! I guess now I need to start planning something else to look forward to...

Birthday Countdown: 14 days

In exactly two weeks I will be turning 30! To celebrate the beginning of my countdown, I'd like to look back at what I did for my birthday last year. When I turned 29, I decided I wanted to perform 29 random acts of kindness on my birthday. I took the day off work and headed out with my mom to spend the day doing a number of different acts of kindness.

Here's a partial list of what we did:

Left a $15 gift card at Starbucks for the barista to give to a customer
Gave a scratch-off lottery ticket to the man who filled my tires at Discount Tire
Donated books and movies to the library
Took donuts and a thank you card to the fire station
Went to the police station and brought them donuts and a thank you card
Left a $10 gift card in a copy of The Hunger Games at Barnes & Noble
Took a basket of toys to donate to the Children’s Hospital
Donated muffins for the nurses at the Children’s Hospital
Left a $5 bill on a windshield in the parking lot of the Children’s Hospital
Went to the Denver Rescue Mission and made a food donation
Donated a $5 phone card to the Denver Rescue Mission
Filled parking meters downtown
Gave our waiter at the Mellow Mushroom a Mega Millions lottery ticket
Taped a pre-paid parking slip to the payment machine so someone could get free parking
Made a clothes donation at ARC
Took a roll of quarters ($10) to the Laundromat
Made a $10 donation to the Dumb Friends League
Put a thank you card in my mailbox for the postman with a caramel apple to “brighten his day”

We had a great day and hopefully made a few people happy with the random kindness we showed them. I'd like to think that our acts of kindness had a ripple affect and trickled down to other people along the way.
