It seems like the latest trend I've been seeing on Pinterest is capsule wardrobes. If you haven't heard of them, they are basically a small collection of clothes that can all be mixed and matched so you have lots of different options to choose from without having an overflowing closet. I've been hearing about capsule wardrobes for at least a year and I always thought it was a neat idea. Who wouldn't want more outfit options with less clothes? And why wouldn't I want every piece of clothing in my closet to fit me well and make me feel good when wearing it? Like I mentioned in my last post, a few weeks ago I decided to give this idea a try. Before I started, I went through my closet and counted how many pieces I had hanging up. There were 114 hanging items in my closet!! This blew me away because the majority of the clothes hadn't been worn in 6 months or even longer. So why was I wasting all this closet space with clothes that I wasn't even wearing? By the time I was done weeding out the unnecessary clothes, I had a much sleeker looking closet with a grand total of 27 items (including pants & shoes). It was a huge sigh of relief! Every time I open my closet I can clearly see every piece of clothing to choose from. I know that everything fits me and that I have many different combinations to choose from for my outfit that day. If you'd like to give this a try in your own closet, keep reading to get the step-by-step process for creating your own capsule wardrobe.

My obsession with makeup and beauty products has been very well documented on my blog over the last few years. From buying makeup, to organizing my collection, and even making wish lists of everything I want to buy, I've done a little bit of everything on here when it comes to beauty products! With it being so long since I posted on here, I figured I would start with something fun and exciting...to me, anyway! I recently got an email from Tarte about their holiday collection coming out and I made the mistake of clicking on the link to their site, which then led to me promptly falling in love with pretty much everything. Tarte is one of my favorite makeup brands because their products are high-quality, but also affordable (at least compared to some high-end beauty brands). As an added bonus, their products are pure & cruelty free. Here is a snapshot from one of their emails about the ingredients they never use: If you're thinking of checking out their new products, I would recommend taking advantage of the free shipping offer they have until tomorrow, September 4. If you miss this offer, they generally have free shipping on orders of $25+ (or maybe it's $50+), which isn't too hard to reach once you see how much great stuff they have! Another great money-saving tip for any type of shopping trip is eBates. Have you ever heard of them? Basically, you go to their website and choose which store where you want to do your online shopping. They've got deals for most major online stores, plus even some travel sites as well. Once you click on the link to that store you will see a window pop up saying that you're being redirected. And that's it!! You can do your online shopping like you usually would and checkout through that store's website. Depending on which store you're shopping on, you can earn cash back from your purchase, sometimes up to 10%!! If you'd like to check out eBates, here's a link where you can access the site and sign up. Let me know in the comments if you try it!! Okay...enough talk of sales & free shipping. Let's get to the actual makeup, which is probably why you're here, right? I ended up getting a few things on this shopping trip and I'm already counting down the days anxiously until my package gets delivered. First up, the lip products (my fav): Next, here are the two palettes I ordered: And that's everything! Now that I'm putting it all on one page it doesn't look like nearly enough, but I can always go back and buy more if I 'need' to.
I hope you enjoyed my haul and maybe found some inspiration for upcoming fall & holiday makeup trends. (Side note: raise your hand if you're super excited about fall almost being here! Me, too!!) Let me know in the comments if you decide to buy anything I shared above. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Tarte, eBates, and pretty much anything else :-) I love LUSH all times of year, but things get even more amazing around Christmas. Part of it is probably that I tend to take more baths when the weather is colder, but also they just have so many great products this time of year. So here are the items I picked up on my last trip to LUSH: So that's what I bought on my last trip. If you have any LUSH favorites, please tell me about them in the comments below so I can try them the next time I'm there.
Ever since I was little I have been making wish lists for myself. Not only are they fun to make, they are also useful when it comes time to give people ideas for birthday or Christmas presents. I decided to make a wish list for all of the beauty products I've been hearing about lately. It seems like this is the time of year when Sephora and Ulta first get their gift guides put together and I always find a ton of stuff I want. Instead of going out and buying everything, which would cost a small fortune, I'm going to "window shop" and show you what I find. Here are the products I am drooling over at the moment from Sephora:
And here are the products I am wishing for at Ulta: And that is everything I currently have on my beauty product wish list! I hope you found something you like. Let me know in the comments below which beauty products you have found that I should go check out.
It's hard to believe how quickly this year is going! It hardly seems possible that it's already October and winter is around the corner. In order to prepare myself for the cold temperatures that are quickly approaching, I ordered a couple of items online. I heard about the first item on a YouTube video from Zoella and immediately went to the website for Marks & Spencer (a company in the UK) to see if I could get shipping to the US for a reasonable price. They actually offer free shipping on orders over £35, so I went ahead and placed my order. Here's what I got: This is the Luxury Hooded Shimmer Dressing Gown. Zoella put this on during her YouTube video for her September favorites and I knew I had to have it. I especially loved the hood. It doesn't hurt that she said it's the softest thing she's ever felt! The other item I bought is a pair of the Cable Knit Toggle Slipper Boots. These were too cute to pass up and I figured as a bonus they will look cute with the dressing gown. Here is the YouTube video on Zoella's channel in case you want to see what else she was loving last month: Now I feel like I'm prepared for the weather to get colder, but am hoping fall will last as long as possible because it's my favorite time of year!
Hopefully I'll be writing another Something For Yourself post sometime soon, so please stay tuned for more! Last week a co-worker told me about DAVIDsTEA and I knew right away that I had to check it out. Their website has amazing pictures of their loose-leaf tea and great descriptions for each flavor. I started shopping around and before I knew it I had not only qualified for free shipping after spending $50 but had also qualified for a free gift for spending over $100! Despite spending a small fortune, I really felt like I got a lot for my money. Here's everything I bought:
See what I mean about getting a lot for my money? That's nine different teas plus a mug, spoon, and a teapot/teacup set! And even better, my order confirmation email said I should get the package on April 26 and it actually came one day early! Here are the pictures I took of my package and the contents. Now I'll share links to each of the flavors I selected and also show the great pictures of the loose leaf tea from the website. Main Squeeze GREET THE DAY: We all know the classic morning ritual: a cup of coffee and a glass of orange juice. But what if you could get your energy boost and fresh-squeezed fruity taste all in one cup? We’re serious. Shake up your old routine with this fruity maté blend, and you may never go back. It’s got the juicy flavour of orange, papaya and pineapple, plus the high-energy punch of green yerba maté. Just one sip and you’ll feel alert, refreshed and ready for anything. Say hello to your new main squeeze. (MK Kosher) INGREDIENTS: Green yerba maté, candied papaya, pineapple, safflower, natural flavouring. Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait PICTURE PARFAIT: The ancient Chinese used it in medicine. The medieval Europeans traded for it along the Silk Road. And today we love it in pies, sauces, muffins or just plain, dipped in a little sugar. But the best way to eat rhubarb is with sweet, ripe strawberries. Like in this refreshingly fruity, deep red tisane. It tastes as bright and juicy as a fresh-picked berry, with a tart rhubarb punch and a subtle hint of yogurt creaminess. We love it hot or iced, or as the base for sweet, zippy sangria. Now that’s a beautiful thing. Caffeine-free. INGREDIENTS: Apple, hibiscus, raisins, carrot, yogurt bits, beetroot, strawberry, rhubarb, natural and artificial flavouring. Pink Lemonade THINK PINK: When life gives you lemons, reach for this zippy hot pink blend. One sip is enough to turn any frown upside down. Not only is it packed with rooibos, hibiscus and other good-for-you stuff, it’s also unbelievably delicious any way you drink it. Served hot, it’s a tart and tasty throat soother. On ice, it’s an addictively tangy summer refresher. And if you really want to take it to the next level, freeze it into ice cubes and blend them up with some agave and a splash of vodka. Hello, grown-up slushie. (MK Kosher) INGREDIENTS: Hibiscus, mango, lemon peel, rooibos, lemon myrtle, lemongrass, stevia, cornflower petals, natural and artificial lime, lemon and sugar cane flavouring. Berry Poppins BERRY BERRY QUITE CONTRARY: Rich, dark, sweet and addictive – is there anything more delicious than a perfectly ripe blackberry? Not that we can think of. And with this unbelievably fruity tea, you can capture that fresh-off-the-bush taste anytime, anywhere. Served hot, it’s like a warm slice of blackberry pie. Over ice, it’s like a scoop of blackberry sorbet. With apple, hibiscus, rosehips and blackberry, it’s better than good…It’s supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! INGREDIENTS: Apple, hibiscus, blackberry leaves, orange peel, rosehips, rose petals, artificial blackberry and cream flavouring. Birthday Cake PARTY LIKE IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY: What’s the best thing about birthdays? It could be the presents, or spending time with loved ones, but let’s be honest. It’s all about the cake. With vanilla icing, and lots of sprinkles. And this sweet and festive rooibos blend brings the taste of birthday cake to your cup any day of the year – sprinkles and all. Best of all, not only is it low in calories, it also has all the goodness of rooibos. Talk about having your cake and eating it too. INGREDIENTS: Red and green rooibos, honeybush, sprinkles, ice cream bits, natural and artificial flavoring. Contains milk, eggs and soy. Vanilla Chai (organic) CHAI SOMETHING NEW: There’s no better way to warm up a chilly winter day than a hot cup of chai. The combo of rich black tea and exotic spice is like a cup of pure comfort. And this spicy black tea blend turns up the heat even more with a sweet and creamy hint of vanilla. It’s as cozy as a teddy bear wearing a scarf. In front of a roaring fire. While cuddling with a puppy. Try it with milk and sugar for a warming treat that’ll have you wishing for snow. INGREDIENTS: Organic: Cinnamon, black tea, licorice root, ginger, vanilla. With natural vanilla and cream flavouring. Midsummer Night's Dream SUMMER LOVE: This citrusy-mint tea is refreshingly magical, with sweet apples, cool spearmint, tart gooseberries, orange oil, and petals of marigold and rose. But before you take a sip, we should probably warn you that it’s a bit of a love potion. For some people, it seems to turn regular summer evenings into dreamlike nights of romance and enchantment. Ice it and see what happens. Caffeine-free. INGREDIENTS: Apple pieces, spearmint, freeze-dried whole cape gooseberries, marigold blossoms, safflowers, rose petals. With artificial flavouring. Garcinia Goodness (organic) GOODNESS GRACIOUS: We all sometimes need a little after-dinner relief. Next time, reach for this earthy, citrusy tea. It combines pu’erh and garcinia – two traditional metabolism boosters. Haven’t heard of garcinia? It’s a small tropical fruit that looks a bit like a mini pumpkin. And in its native Asia, it’s been used as a natural appetite suppressant for centuries. Here we blend it with black tea, pu’erh, orange peel and hibiscus, for a rich, earthy tea you can feel good about drinking. The perfect end to any meal. INGREDIENTS: Organic: Black tea, puerh tea, orange peel, hibiscus, garcinia, stevia, red cornflower. With natural orange flavouring. Mint Chocolate Rooibos FRESHLY MINTED: You won’t want anything else for dessert when you taste this tea. Even the aroma is totally satisfying. Minty fresh, with hints of dark chocolate and rich vanilla. Pour it and admire the coppery red of the rooibos, then take a sip and sink into its velvety sweetness. You can’t help but fall in love. INGREDIENTS: South African rooibos, chocolate, cacao, peppermint, natural and artificial chocolate flavouring*. Contains soy. May contain milk. So those are the nine different teas I selected. I have already tried a couple and they taste as good as they sound! If you are interested in trying them out make sure to use the code TEAFORONE if you spend $100 so you can get the free teapot/teacup set!
Today was the first day of Sephora's VIB 20% off sale, so I headed to the mall during my lunch break and did some major damage. I'll show pictures below of everything I bought along with descriptions and links in case you would like to buy any of it yourself. My first stop at the mall was Sephora. Here's a list of everything I purchased:
When Sephora sent their holiday catalog in the mail it included some perfume testers. I really liked how the Dolce by Dolce & Gabbana smelled, so I knew I wanted to get a rollerball of it. I was really surprised when I opened the box and realized that it wasn't actually a rollerball at all. Instead, it's got a spray at the top, which is even better! Here's a link to the perfume on the Sephora website. Having never tried any Buxom lip gloss, I wasn't sure if it made sense to invest in 15 mini glosses. But I was pleasantly surprised when I got home and tried one out. I really like the texture and feel of the glosses and am happy with the variety of colors that came in the gift set. Here's a link to the set. The GinZing line by Origins has intrigued me for a long time now, but the steep price has prevented me from trying the full-size products. So when I saw this gift set of minis I knew I had to try it out. I haven't had a chance to try them yet, but I'll try to remember to give my first impression later. This set isn't on the Sephora website, so here are the links to the Refreshing Scrub Cleanser, Energy Boosting Moisturizer, and the Refreshing Eye Cream. I am a huge fan of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light and have had my eye on the palette for awhile. Unfortunately it's been sold out every time I've looked for it, so I was really excited when they had it in the store today and even more excited to get it for 20% off! Here's a link to find the palette on the website. A lot of YouTube beauty bloggers I watch have talked about the French perfume and candle company called Diptyque lately. I couldn't find them on Sephora's website, so I checked them out on Amazon and was shocked to see that a candle from the company is $60! I personally don't even buy the Bath & Body Works candles for their full price of $22.50 and always wait for them to go on sale, so I knew that Diptyque wasn't an option. However, the Nest brand also came up on Amazon and I knew I had seen it before at Sephora, so I checked it out and really liked the scent called Midnight Fleur. I didn't want to invest in a $60 bottle of perfume, so I opted for the rollerball version so I can take it with me on trips or throw it in my purse for on the go. Here's a link to get the rollerball version from Sephora. This is probably the third Brow Wiz I have bought from Anastasa Beverly Hills. I also bought the #7 brush so that I have a spooley brush on hand all the time. The one that comes on the Brow Wiz always seems to break off in my makeup bag, so I have learned my lesson and bought one that will last. Here are links to both the Brow Wiz and the brush. First Aid Beauty is a brand I have never tried, so I was excited when I saw a travel-size version of the Facial Radiance Pads near the checkout line. It says that they Exfoliate, Tone & Brighten so I'm curious to see if I notice any difference in my skin after using them for a few weeks. Here's a link to the travel-size version on the Sephora site. Tory Burch is one of my favorite brands, although the only item I own is a pair of sunglasses so far. I thought I'd add to my collection by cashing in 250 Sephora points and getting this baby-size of her perfume for free. And that's everything I got at Sephora! Mini rant…is it just me or do they always give you the smallest bag possible for your purchases? I swear I've spent a ton of money on other trips and wondered how so much money could fit in one little bag! This time they had to give me a big bag because of how huge the Buxom lip gloss set was, so I finally felt like my bag actually represented how much I spent. Am I the only one who feels like that? My next stop at the mall was Lush. I've been seeing all kinds of Lush hauls on YouTube and decided I would finally give their bath bombs a try. I haven't had a chance to actually use any of them yet, so I don't have any first impressions other than how good they smelled in the store! Here's a list of everything I bought at Lush:
The Butterball bath bomb was one that I really wanted to try. It's much smaller than the other ones, but it smells really good and will hopefully be a nice addition to a relaxing bath. Here's a link to see the Butterball on the Lush website. I think Twilight might be the first bath bomb I try. It includes lavender which will make it a great option for a bath right before bedtime. Here's a link to this bath bomb. The Lord of Misrule bath bomb wasn't even on my list, but I smelled it in the store and knew I had to try it! Here's a link to this product on the Lush site. The Lush website says Golden Wonder is a "luxurious champagne soak", so I'm excited to try it out and see if it's as luxurious as they say. Here's a link to this festive bath bomb on the Lush website. Northern Lights is supposed to be like a firework show in your bathtub! Here's a link so you can check it out yourself. Isn't the Melting Snowman bath melt so cute?! He lost his nose somewhere, but I still think he's adorable. Here's a link to the Lush site where you can buy your very own Melting Snowman. The Wizard bubble bar smelled great and was also too cute to pass up! Here's a link so you can read all about him. Candy Mountain smells just as sweet as you would expect. Here's a link so you can check it out online. During my trip I also re-purchased another small container of Ocean Salt. I just ran out and didn't have another facial scrub on hand, but I knew that I liked this one and decided to buy it again. I also heard good things about the Shine So Bright Split End Treatment. One of the YouTube videos I watched talked about how you can use this to tame all the little frizzies along the part in your hair in addition to using it for its intended purpose of soothing split ends. Here are links to Ocean Salt and Shine So Bright. That's the end of my huge haul from Sephora and Lush! I hope you enjoyed reading about the products I picked up. Please let me know what your favorites are or if there are other items I didn't get that I should grab during my next trip!
Fall is my favorite time of year and I decided the best way to celebrate the upcoming season change is to splurge on some amazing fall scents at Bath & Body Works. It seems like I get a new email from them every day with a new deal, but the other day I got one I couldn't resist. Not only did they have $12 candles, they also had buy 3 get 3 free and $4 hand soaps. Here's everything that I got: 3-Wick Candles for $12 each:
$4 Hand Soap:
Buy 3, Get 3 Free Shower Gel:
The best part is that they also had an offer free shipping that I used, so I didn't have to pay for shipping. But after I finalized my order I realized I had forgotten to use my 20% off coupon. Their customer service department was amazing and gave me the 20% off anyway, so I saved an extra $20! So an order that should have cost me almost $200 only ended up costing me $95! The worst part is that they sent me another coupon to save $10 off an order of $30, so I'm tempted to buy even more stuff (probably candles)…but I'll try to contain myself! What's your favorite fall candle from Bath & Body Works? Mine from last year is Marshmallow Fireside, but Sweater Weather may win this year.
There is a great sale today only on the Kate Spade website. You can save up to 75% and also get free shipping on orders over $200! Owning a Kate Spade wallet or handbag has been on my wish list, so I bought one of each today! Here's what I got: Plus…if you shop through eBates you get another 3.5% in cash back! Use this link to start getting money back right away! Leave a comment if you buy something from the Kate Spade sale today. I'd love to see what you buy!
I'll admit it...I've recently become addicted to Sephora. I've always walked past the store at the mall and wondered what the appeal was. But now I have found my love for the store and can't stop shopping there! It doesn't help that they have amazing deals that are emailed to me almost daily. Yesterday I received an email telling me that I could receive 8 free samples in a cute clutch if I made a purchase of $25. This is the set I chose. It's called Holly Jolly Nourishment. Here's what it includes:
In order to get this set, I needed to spend $25. I was debating over a few items until I got another email today with some awesome holiday sets. Here's the one I bought, it's called the Sephora Favorites Glitz & Glam: Not only do I absolutely love the bag, but I'm also really excited about everything that comes in it! Here's what you get for $45 (a $159 value):
Of course, I was only $5 away from getting free shipping, so I had to buy one more thing! This is the Sephora Collection Mirosmooth Luminizer in Light Beam. Here is how the website describes this product: MicroSmooth is made with ultralight, micronized advanced pigments that blend effortlessly into the skin to enhance your skintone and give a flawless no-makeup look and feel to the skin. It adds a natural, seamless luminescence to cheeks, temples, and browbone for a healthy-looking, radiant, and gorgeous glow. The breathable baked formula applies smoothly while the unique, airy texture perfectly melts into skin for a natural finish. After hitting the $50 minimum for free shipping, now all I have to do is wait patiently for 3 days until my order arrives! I'd say that I made quite a haul for a total of $63 including tax. I'm getting 17 different products along with two clutch bags!
Now I'm curious about everyone else's favorite products at Sephora. Please share in the comments section! |
