Even though we're already more than halfway through 2014, I still haven't started working on my Smash Book for 2013.

The other day I sat down and put together a list of all the events I would like to include in my next book.  Here they are:
  • Various happy hours throughout the year
  • Trip to Michigan to visit family (January)
  • Trip to Cabo, Mexico (February)
  • Volunteering at World Vision (February)
  • Vacation in Europe (May)
  • Watching a movie in the park (August)
  • Going to the Mall of American (August)
  • Family coming to visit in Denver (August)
  • Starting this blog! (September)
  • Trip to Michigan to visit family (September)
  • Charity poker event (October)
  • Zombie crawl (October)
  • Celebrating my 30th birthday (October)
  • Visiting the Colorado Cider Company (November)
  • Celebrating Christmas with family (December)
  • Going to Indianapolis for New Year's Eve (December)

I guess I hadn't realized how busy I was last year!  So now I've got a whole lot to fit into just one book, but I think I can make it work.  Stay tuned for pictures as I make some progress!

My First Smash Book: Trip to Europe

This spring I went on a trip to Europe and decided ahead of time that I'd like to make a Smash book of the trip.  The best part was that I took the Smash book and some supplies with me and I worked on it throughout the trip.  By the time I got home I was 90% done with it, I just had to paste in some pictures and it was finished!  I had bought some keychains during the trip and put them on the pen loop when the book was done to add some extra character to the book.

Here are some pictures of my Europe Smash book so you can see how it turned out:

This is a page I created to keep track of our itinerary of the trip. I used Washi tape to hold down the corners of the pages and added some stickers in the empty spaces.

On these pages you can see how I used lots of different items to fill the space. I've got notebook paper and the room key holder from our hotel on one page. I've also got a ticket stub, a picture, and some cutouts from the brochure for our ferry ride on the other page.

These pages are all about the castle we stayed the night at in Scotland. I used the brochure from the castle, a postcard, and some notebook paper from my room.

This is all about our time in London. I have included a postcard, a receipt, a small printout of the tube map, and a little "Stuff" pocket to hold my tube ticket.

I also wanted to capture some pictures of the condo we rented in Notting Hill. I took pictures of all the rooms and then pasted them to the pages. I also found a green pocket where I could put even more pictures that didn't fit on the pages.

One of my last spreads was for our day in Paris. I bought some postcards and wrote on the back of them with memories from that day. I used Washi tape at the top so you can flip the postcard up and read what is written on the back. On the opposite page I used a large pocket to hold my Eurostar tickets.

There are plenty of ideas and tutorials online if you're interested in starting a Smash book.  You can visit my Pinterest board to see the ideas I pinned or you can check out some of the many videos on YouTube.
